Andrea Vaughans, M.D.
Associate Professor, Learning Specialist
Dr. Andrea Vaughans is an Associate Professor and Learning Specialist with extensive experience in medical education, curriculum development, and student success initiatives. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) from St. George’s University and later returned to SGU as a faculty member, where she spent four years contributing to medical education and student support.
In addition to her academic career, Dr. Vaughans practiced medicine at Scarborough General Hospital in Tobago, gaining firsthand clinical experience that informs her approach to teaching and mentoring medical students. Prior to her current role, she served as the Director of the Cognitive Processing Course (CPC) and an Associate Professor in the Education Enhancement Department at AUA, where she led multiple remediation programs and collaborated with faculty to enhance student learning strategies. She also chaired community outreach initiatives, fostering partnerships with organizations such as the WHO HPV Initiative, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and various non-profit organizations to promote health education and advocacy.
Dr. Vaughans is passionate about innovative teaching strategies, active learning methodologies, and student-centered approaches that empower learners to succeed in medical school and beyond. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between foundational sciences and clinical application, ensuring students develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for their future medical careers.
She is also an active researcher in medical education, with publications exploring personalized learning strategies, AI integration in medical training, and remediation techniques.
Dr. Vaughans continues to explore innovative ways to enhance medical education through research, curriculum design, and faculty development.
